May 15, Pilates: effective exercise

It has come to my attention recently as a Pilates instructor and trained dancer something that I take for granted.
Exercise for maximum benefit in a certain space of time is a mind, body and spirit coordination. Joe Pilates knew this and it is one of the basic principles of Pilates from which the exercises grew. It is your control over that body and which and what muscles and how much you work them that makes the difference.
I sometimes see people in gymns on treadmills or other machines mindlessly going through the motions or even reading a book or watching TV. Sometimes people doing Pilates go on automatic and switch off. Do they have any idea what their muscles and joints are up to as they move? How would they know if they were doing something detrimental or useless and probably they are. That is the beauty of Pilates . You learn to operate the joints , muscles and body exactly as you want it to work and you monitor it to make sure what you want is happening. So you are in control and you are working that machine the way you want it to work for you for maximum benefit not the other way round. That is why Pilates training is training for any physical activity in life. And not just so you can do it but so you can do it with ease, vigor and pleasure.

Apr 29, Current classes and breathing

hello,
why is breathing such an important part of Pilates? Well for one reason you cannot live without it (joke) but seriously: muscles require oxygen for effcient operation: Especially the deeper muscles that are used in Pilates. These are a different muscle than the outer muscle and use more oxygen but all muscles need oxygen. You can actually experience them working better with the breath once you are in tune with the body.
Breathing facilitates the intense action of muscles and an exhale is often but not always used on the intense engagement.
Joe Pilates called breathing -the internal shower- as it removes the impurities and brings good oxygen in. Mind you the air in Joe Pilates day was defintely a lot cleaner than it is now!!
There are Pilates exercises specifically designed to help push the impure air out and get as much oxygen to the muscles. The Hundred is an example of this as it warms up the circulation and oxygenates the body ready to go.
Breathing facilitates control of movement and rythymn which all leads to better execution and more result. When it is tough the impulse is to breathe less or even hold the breath. Here is where you should give more emphasis to a long inhale and long exhale to help. It works amazingly to make the work easier
So breathe on when you exercise and in life.

I have Intermediate/Advanced and Beginners mat classes in La Crescenta area Los Angles North East LA.
I also work from a studio in Woodland Hills , North West LA and soon Studio City in LA.
I also consider privates and classes in your home if done on a regular basis.

success:
I love your classes , I feel so invigorated after. People should know about this as it is so invigorating and energizing.

March 2008
After 4 classes: I feel like I am lighter to hold myself up even though I am not ( lighter in weight) I feel like I am not sluggish anymore in moving the body.

I can sit up with my legs crossed in front and I have never been able to do that even as a child. ( This is after 4 classes with emphasis on stretching)

Nov 16, Survey

Hello
I have a question for you Pilates enthusiasts out there.
I am considering making this website into a membership website .
This means you can visit the website , however for a monthly fee you will get Pilates exercises in downloadable visual form that you can perform each month and build up a collection. Like an exercise per month with really good instructions on how to do it correctly.
Would you like to belong to such a membership?
How much would you pay per month for such a membership?
Any other feed back on this.
You can e-mail me at LouiseForscher@sbcglobal.net to answer this survey.
I look forward to your input.

I am still running mat classes at La Crescenta over the holiday season.
Also I will be at the studio in Woodland Hills and available for privates or classes in your home.
Again e-mail me at the above address for details and more information.

Have a really nice Thanksgiving this coming Thursday if you are in the USA and if not have a really good Thursday too.

Hello Pilates enthusiasts,
Here is a success from an older client of mine in his late 60's:
Oh my no longer aching back!!
Hi Louise,
Incredible! After 30yrs of painfully, and oh so slowly straightening after bending down to tie, pick something up ( if I couldnt find someone to do it for me) Louise fixed me----- in two sessions.
Im so amazed and delighted that I go around picking things up for other people----- and marvelling at the absence of any- let me repeat that-any pain.
So thank you Louisefrom the bottom of my bend.

You can also experience the magic of Pilates .
Open classes happening Sat Sept 8th at La Crescenta. This is mat Pilates.
9am to 12.
You can come along and join in to a suitable class.

Aug 8, Pilates workout at the correct level

There is a aspect to workout and exercise that is overlooked a lot.
That is the level to work at for your body.
This does not mean the level you would like to work out at. This means what is best for your body at the time.
Exercise and work out done on an incorrect gradient for the body will tighten it up and create problems.
In Pilates this is certainly the case.
Sometimes you move quickly physically from one level to another sometimes more slowly . This depends on how often you exercise, your ability to take it in and your own physical abilty. But with the right level you will go from strength to strength . Good luck.

Aug 1, Pilates in La Crescenta and Woodland Hills Los Angeles

On Sat August 4th in La Crescenta, Los Angeles there will be an Introductory Class to Pilates at 9am , followed by an open class at 10am. Cost $10 each.
The introductory class teaches you the basics of Pilates and introduces me as a teacher. I recommend it whether you have done Pilates or not, as it is always good to reconnect to the basics.
For new people to Pilates it introduces the basic concepts needed to be able to do any Pilates workout
Pilates lengthens and strengthens, it irons out tight areas, puts the body back in balance in the joints and muscles, increases oxygenation and gives a lift to the body and you.
The 10am class is only for those who have done Pilates for at least 3mths , it is not a starters class. Injury can result if you approach Pilates at the incorrect level to start and it will only tighten the body up at the incorrect level.

Where: The Dance House
       2nd floor
       2540 Foothill Blvd,

       Ca 91214
Bring a small pillow and a mat if you have one.
LouiseForscher@sbcglobal.net
Phone: 818 775 9548

I also train out of a lovely studio in Woodland Hills and I will come to your home for privates or group classes.

The next date for introductions and open classes is Sept 8th. So watch for more data.

Leaving a Pilates class you feel lighter and more energized and you have worked out from top to toe.
Comments most frequently heard during a Pilates session Wow! I didnt even know I had a muscle there Those muscles have never worked before After 4 repetitions I think that is enough ( Even from the most go at it exercisers) Oh Boy , I really feel that I didnt know you were supposed to feel it like that when you do that exercise
Now , I really feel my abdominals. I feel it all over , not just in one spot
