What is antioxidant antiaging?
Trying to keep it in layman’s terms: The cells in ones body are the smallest individual working units of the body which contain oxygen.
Oxidation can occur which means that there is a loss of an electron or of a negatively charged particle. This creates what is called a free radical which is an unstable atom or group of atoms. These free radicals being unstable can have the effect of damaging other cells in the body which may be a factor in the advance of a number of degenerative diseases that attack the body on a cellular level.
Too much sun, pollution, stress, unhealthy food, alcohol and cigarettes taken into the body also introduce more free radicals into the body.
What an antioxidant does is simply to stop the oxidation or binds with harmful molecules in the body so they are no longer harmful and knocks out free radicals and thus protects the body.
What about aging? The degenerative diseases which tend to go along with aging and increased levels of free radicals in the body, also go hand in glove with the aging process. The affect of antioxidants and getting rid of free radicals also tends to slow down the aging process. Thus antioxidant antiaging.
Antioxidants are found in fruits and vegetables in general with the dark green leafy vegetables being a good source. Vitamin A, C and E are also good sources of antioxidants.
With much of the nutrients being washed out of the soil decreasing the nutritional value of our food, supplements are often advisable.
