Another health related issue on this Pilates website.
Did you know that diethanolamine (DEA for short), an ingredient used in over 600 home and personal care products such as soaps, shampoos, conditioners, lotions, detergents, etc. result in clear evidence of being carcinogenic when applied to the skin. This information found by a study by the U.S. Department of Health Services National Toxicology Program. Check the labels on products in your house.
Did you also know that Propylene Glycol which you will find in many or even most cleaning products such as shampoos, toothpastes, deodorants, skin cream, etc. is also the main ingredient in Anti-Freeze. Again check the labels on each cleaning product in your household and see what you find.
Propylene Glycol helps to make it so things don’t dry out. It is found in baby wipes as well as some processed foods. Think about it – have you had a swig of Anti-Freeze lately. Personally I try to avoid it. The things that this substance may be related to are dermatitis, kidney damage, liver abnormalities, damaged skin cell membranes, dry skin, eye irritation, skin irritation, gastro-intestinal disturbances, nausea, headache, vomiting and central nervous system depression.
Similarly Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS) also found in the same type of products - CHECK YOUR LABELS – also has the following industrial uses:
1. Concrete Floor Cleaners
2. Engine Degreasers
3. Car Wash Detergents
What does SLS apparently do to organic tissue?
1. Irritate skin tissue – separation of skin layers - inflamation
2. Corrode hair follicles – impairs ability to grow hair
3. Denatures protein – impairs proper formation of young eyes
4. Damages immune system
Some of the products that SLS is present in such as bubble bath have labels on them such as Keep Out of Reach Of Children or If Swallowed Contact a Poison Center immediately. This substance is in nearly all toothpastes and under the tongue is about the best part of the body to absorb things into your body systems.
And what about aluminum found in processed foods, antiperspirants, antacids, cosmetics, paper products, beverage cans and cookware. The World Health Organizations have found that there is a potential link between toxic aluminum in the brain and Alzheimer’s disease (4th leading cause of death in the elderly).
Read your labels.
