Coral Calcium
Here is one of those products where one has to peel through what is fact and fiction and the stated pros and cons and come down to a personal decision as to whether there is some value in the product or not.
I am relaying information I have found in researching this substance.
The most rational claims I have heard about coral calcium is that it contains calcium carbonate and magnesium as well as other trace minerals.
That it assists the body not by curing anything but helping the body put oxygen in the blood and helping to put the blood in a slightly alkaline state which are factors which if lacking can have a crippling effect on the immune system.
The body could be considered to be an environment which is supportive of health or supportive of disease and various shades of gray depending on how the environment is treated and maintained. If it is treated with substances that tend to make the body too acidic and low in oxygen to the blood then perhaps one could say that that is creating a poor environment for the body.
If it is treated with substances that tend to create a balanced neutral (not to acidic and maybe slightly acidic) oxygenated blood environment then one perhaps could say that it is a good environment for the body.
Claims have been made that coral calcium contributes to the latter – a good environment. Claims have also been made about being an absorbable form of calcium, cleanses the kidneys, intestines and liver, helps with strong bones and teeth, helps insomnia, helps a regular heartbeat, helps metabolize the body’s iron, aids the nervous system, helps breakdown heavy metals in the body, helps control digestive problems, helps muscle and joint mobility, helps combat arthritic conditions, heart disease, blood pressure and helps regulate blood sugar levels.
Not by addressing all of these thing individually but by putting the body in a position to better heal and take care of itself.
The cons I have seen say that coral calcium can not be taken from live coral reefs because coral reefs are protected and therefore it comes from ground up limestone deposits and maybe industrial waste.
The other cons I have seen are about all the claims that have been made which have no documentation or scientific proof. There has also been heavy marketing of this product and someone probably made a lot of money from it and perhaps was more into the monetary aspects of selling the product than actually helping people. Maybe not though if they in fact believed in the product.
Tends to upset some people. So this product which claims to have much benefit has been getting a bad rap, and I honestly can’t tell you if any of it is true. There are testimonials which if they are true show that there have been some dramatic positive effects. And if those saying bad things about this product happen to have a vested interest in other more traditional “cures” to ills such as the drug companies that make billions of dollars pushing products that don’t address the source of the problem but mask them and have ridiculous side effects, then I think it a good idea to look beyond the criticism and see if there is a value in this product before giving it the heave hoe.
How do you tell if a certain type of food is good for your body? One way is to try it. Usually you can tell and feel the effect it has. Calcium alone being the most abundant mineral in your body has got to have some value. Whether this form is better or not could be tested and if you are perceptive you should be able to tell.
