Monthly Tips to Reach Your Ultimate Health

Pilates Class – The Pilates Instructor

Your Pilates instructor is your greatest asset. For your physical well being you need to make sure:

1. Your instructor is certified.

2. It was a course of at least 3 months duration with a recognized training establishment.

3. As well as training they did hours of teaching, observing and practicing the work themselves.

The Pilates Method Alliance is an organization formed to protect the integrity of the method and correct Pilates exercise instruction. They have names and addresses of good Pilates instructors.

Back to your instructor. Here are some qualities to look for:

1. Communication: Top Priority. Can they get across to you’re the needed principles in an understandable way. Can you hear them? Communication can also mean the ability to demonstrate and touch your body at the right muscle to tell it what to do.

2. Safety: Do they pay attention to this with equipment. Do they check with you about any injuries or physical issues you have and warn you when an exercise is not appropriate?

3. The Correct Level: Is the work delivered at the correct level or Pilates exercise program for you? If you aren’t told what level ask? Joseph Pilates developed the work at different levels and it is designed to build up. It can be called basics, beginners, intermediate. advanced or Level 1, 2, 3, etc. If you are just starting, intermediate or Level 4 is not for you.

The incorrect level for you will only cause tightness, incorrect muscle use and possibly pain and injury. You will loose flexibility, not gain it.

And of course, in addition to correct Pilates exercise instruction and Pilates exercise program, a Pilates exercise instructor has to be somewhat people friendly so you can like them. You’ll progress better if you feel relaxed and at ease with a friendly but competent Pilates instructor that gives you lots of praise and encouragement for the things that you do right.

You can flank a good instructor with DVDs and videos but it is not a replacement.
