Potable Water Filter
Why does one want a potable water filter?
The Best Water Filter Solution
The sad but true fact is that due to the use of various chemicals in our society, whether they be pesticides, herbicides, disinfectants, cleaners, etc; there are many chemicals that enter our potable water and have an effect on our well being. Many cities have now found drug residuals in the water we drink. What long term effect do they have.
The potentially harmful chemicals often have scientific names which are not necessary for the layman to know and can be confusing. I have made a glossary of a number of these terms at the end of this page with some simple definitions in case you are stuck trying to figure them out. The only important point to know is that these chemicals are known or at least suspect to have harmful effects on the human or other bodies, often affecting the kidneys or liver or being carcinogenic.
What many dont know is that the majority of household products for example shampoos and toothpaste have potentially hazardous ingredients that for instance are also used in antifreeze. Ingredients such as sodium laurel sulfate and propylene glycol as well as aluminum chlorhydrate in roll-on deodorant just in case you want to check your existing products for these ingredients, hopefully get rid of them and seek another solution.
Chlorine introduced into drinking water about the early 1900s , although it serves the purpose of killing off bacteria is also suspect in contributing to the rapid rate of cancer growth from that time until present. Another key reason for a Potable water filter.
What it does is to filter out potentially harmful chemicals and by products of chlorination.
How do you choose the right potable water filter? That depends on what you are looking for. The various types are:
1. Pitchers Probably the easiest as you must put water into a pitcher and let it filter. It takes about 20 minutes to filter half a gallon of water.
2. Faucet Mounts These are mounted to your faucet in one area such as the kitchen and have a lever to turn them off and on. The filter cartridges last about 2 or 3 months.
3. Under Sink Mounts These are not openly visible and usually are installed by a plumber or handyman. The filter cartridges last about 6 months.
4. Whole House Systems These are relatively inexpensive and give a faster rate of flow than other types. Filter cartridges last about 6 months. It is recommended these be installed by a plumber.
5. Reverse Osmosis In this process, water is pulled through a membrane to purify it. It is effective however slow and you waste about 5 gallons of water for every 1 gallon that is purified. This type unit should also be installed by a professional.
6. Alkaline Antioxidant Water Ionizer They take your water from acidic to a more alkaline level however they don't necessarily purify your water. Aspects of the benefits of this are covered in the Masters Miracle page.
It is recommended to get more information about the effects of too acidic a system by doing your own research on the internet on subjects such as acidosis.
